Program Description:

The mission of the Oklahoma Family Planning Program is "to provide individuals the
information and means to exercise personal choice in determining the number and spacing of
their children".

Jefferson County Health Department's Family Planning services are provided by an OB/GYN
Nurse Practitioner, and Public Health Nurses.

Annual physical exam consisting of pap smear, breast exam, hemoglobin, height and weight,
blood pressure, and if applicable, sexually transmitted disease screening.

Se proporciona metodos de planificacion familiar incluyendo pastillas, inyeccion, dispositivo,
dia fragma, condones y espermicidas. Tambien se ofrece el examen completo a mujeres y
hombres. Para mujeres, esto incluye examen de los pechos y el papanicolau.

Methods of birth control available:

Depo-Provera  is an injection you get from your nurse every three months
(13 weeks). When taken as scheduled - just 4 times a year -
it's more than 99% effective.  
Oral Contraception Pills made of artificial hormones. Stops Ovaries from releasing an egg
each month. If you are diligent about taking pills everyday, it's more than 99% effective.  
Condoms 97% effective if careful every time. If used with foam-- more than 99% effective.
Available to everyone, anytime, free of charge
Vaginal Film  Made of chemicals that kill sperm. 94% effective if used carefully every time.
99% effective when used with condoms.
Diaphragms  Small rubber cup fits inside vagina, over the cervix. Used with contraceptive
cream or jelly that kills sperm. 94% effective if used properly.
IUD Small device put inside uterus by a clinician. 98-99% effective.


If this is your first time getting Birth Control from any Oklahoma State Health Department, you
can request to be "Early Started".
Early Start consists of a Patient History, Weight and Blood Pressure.
You will be issued a short supply of Birth Control of your choice and then you will be made an
appointment for a Physical Exam. Allowing you to begin using your birth control instead of
waiting for your Exam.


Family Planning Appointments are available Mondays and Tuesdays.
