To help protect against chronic diseases like cancer, obesity, diabetes, and heart disease, we've been encouraged to eat five or more servings of fruits and vegetables daily. This goal, while seemingly simple, is one that many find difficult to achieve. In the quest for 5 A Day, we often turn to juice. Is that a good thing? Yes and No.
Including quality juices in your diet can be a healthful way to benefit from fruits and veggies. Juices should be 100% juice, not a juice drink or blend. Even good quality juice should be substituted for no more than one of the five recommended daily servings of fruits and vegetables, simply because fruit juices are higher in simple sugars than their whole fruit counterparts and it's easy to get a lot of calories from juice in a short time.
